If you’re responsible for a commercial building there are four very good reasons to improve the EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) rating of it, which could all benefit you in some way.
1. Reduced energy costs. Upgrading lighting, heating and air conditioning and improving insulation all lead to reduced energy consumption and smaller bills. Savings which can often quickly recover the initial investment to improve energy efficiency.
2. Saving the planet. Using less energy reduces the building’s impact on the environment and helps you to deliver on corporate responsibility
3. Attracting tenants. An improved EPC rating and lower energy bills obviously make a building more attractive to prospective tenants.
4. Staying out of trouble. It’s illegal to let a commercial property with an F or G rating, unless there’s a valid exemption, and you can be fined between £500 and £5,000 based on the rateable value of the building if you don’t make an EPC available to any prospective buyer or tenant.
We can work with you to improve the EPC of the building you occupy, manage or own. Our skills lie in delivering the improvements needed to improve efficiency as cost effectively as possible. Key areas to concentrate on whilst trying to improve a building’s efficiency – lighting, heating and insulation – are areas in which we specialise and we have already achieved significant savings for many of our clients. From upgrading the lighting to LED, to full scale boiler replacements we can advise on and implement agreed improvements and arrange certification.
Investing in the energy efficiency of your building will make the building and tenants in it happy and it makes good commercial sense, which should make you happy too.
